"John Wick Chapter 4" officially bowed at its London premiere on Monday night, with the social media reactions embargo lifting during the event.

The fourth entry picks up following the end of "John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum," which saw Keanu Reeves' notorious assassin take a tumble from atop the Continental Hotel after being betrayed by his confidante Winston (Ian McShane). Of course, Wick lives. "Chapter 4" uncovers the infamous Pariah who travels the world in order in search of freedom from the oppression of the devious high-powered, ruthless High Table.

The critically acclaimed action series has drawn strong praise in the first round of reviews particularly for its extensive pool of sparring partners which include Donnie Yen, Hiroyuki Sanada, Marko Zazor, Scott Adkins and Rina Sawayama. Another central topic of opinion is the length of the film, which clocks in at an extended two hours and 49 minutes38 minutes longer than the previous installment's.

Los Angeles Times critic Katie Walsh enjoyed the movie, praising its visuals as a step above other blockbusters of the franchise. However, she added the one aspect she hated: "Because it's dumb."

Collider chief editor Steven Weintraub had nothing but praise for the film. He also indicated that Reeves is up to some shady things using a dragon's breath shotgun.

CinemaBlend critic Eric Eisenberg expressed some reservations about the film's daunting duration. But he states that it "earns it" through "smart pacing" and strong sets.

John Wick: Chapter 4 director and franchise creator Chad Stahelski explains why he hopes to take a break from the series prior to working on the next installment. Stahelski began his professional career working in Hollywood as a stuntman prior to working with the star Keanu Reeves on 2013's John Wick. Stahelski would co-direct the film with David Leitch, before solely in charge of the subsequent three sequels after John Wick was a surprise both financially and critically.

Interview with the film company /Film, Stahelski discusses the future of the action film franchise prior to John Wick: Chapter 4's theatrical release, where he states that he believes it's time to take a break from the series before continuing with Wick's story. In the meantime, the director has indicated that he may not direct a John Wick 5 film, telling the press, "I'm always saying, "This is the last time I'm doing this that will never ever happen again.' So, I'll tell you now"This is my last one." For reasons why he believes that a break is needed, Stahelski says:

While Stahelski is hoping to get away from John Wick's journey through the criminal underground, the franchise is set to expand further with the new Ana de Armas-led spin-off, Ballerina. John Wick Chapter 4 stream is set in the time between John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum and John Wick: Chapter 3 Parabellum as well as John Wick: Chapter 4, Ballerina explores the story of de Armas' Rooney, who sets out on her own quest for revenge against her family's murderers. In the meantime, de Armas is taking over the role of Unity Phelan, Reeves, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick and Anjelica Huston will all play the roles of earlier installments in the franchise.

After his work on John Wick: Chapter 4 and the other chapters in the franchise, Stahelski is set to apply his directing talents to new realms outside of the thrilling gunplay that was Reeves' master assassin. in 2021 Stahelski was tapped by the company to make a film adaptation for Ghosts of Tsushima, the hit 2020 PlayStation video game where an samurai protects the island of Tsushima in the first Mongol invasion of Japan. The director is also expected to make a remake of the Highlander franchise and Stahelski said he was planning his take on the fight between immortals to be an entire trilogy of films.

John Wick: Chapter 4 is one of 2023's most highly anticipated releases. In this regard, although there may be disappointment about the possibility of a discontinuation between installments, it is clear Stahelski's reasons could prove beneficial to future films. Furthermore, with the director's future projects swapping weapons for swordplay, the lessons that Stahelski learns from Ghosts of Tsushima and Highlander will allow for thrilling fight scenes in future films.
