It was a tragedy London had never seen before, beginning with a fire that erupted in an East End bakery on July 1666.



The flame quickly spread and went on to continue to rage for days, devouring areas of the city and destroying thousands of homes.



Thanks to a variety of maps made for Minecraft, gamers now have the first-person perspective of The Great Fire of London.

The Museum of London created the Minecraft maps to mark 350 years since the start of the blaze. mcprofile



A series of mini-games allow players to navigate the city's burning streets.



The second map will show how the fire spread across the city. It will be released in the coming months.



Through a variety of mini games players will be able to recreate the Great Fire as their tongues burn in the blocky world.

The second map, which will be released next month shows how the fire spread throughout the city from Thomas Farriner's bakery (pictured).



Mini games allow players to relive the Great Fire. They can join firefighters fighting the flames with traditional tools, including recreations of a 17th Century firetruck (pictured) or leather buckets.



They can then walk through diverse terrains, such as forests and caves. Players can also fly up in the air to get an aerial view of the landscape.



With the Oculus Rift now in the market gamers can experience virtual reality.



Joshua Blair, digital learning coordinator at the museum, said: 'The first map of the Great Fire 1666 series has allowed us to immerse players in the life and times of London in 1666, reconstructing the narrow streets, wooden buildings and iconic landmarks such as St Paul's Cathedral and London Bridge to set the scene of the fire.'



He added: "This second map is where you can find the Great Fire story. mcprofile We hope that our visitors enjoy learning about this pivotal moment in London's history.



According to its creators , the mini-games are a draw for historical figures like King Charles II, Thomas Farriner (whose bakery was the cause of the fire) and Samuel Pepys (a famous diarist who wrote about the fire).



The game is part of the museum's Great Fire 1666 exhibition, which runs through April 2017.



Players will be able to download the maps for PC and Mac from 2 September.
