SIM lock:

A SIM lock, NETWORK-LOCK, carrier lock, imei-lock or (Master) subsidy lock is a technical restriction built into GSM and CDMA cell phones by producers for use by carriers to restrict the usage of these phones to a particular locations and/or networks. This is unlike a mobile phone (retrospectively called SIM-free or unlocked) that does not impose any SIM limitations.

Unlocking Technology:

Normally, a locked mobile will display a message if a restricted SIM is used, asking for the unlock code. On new phone models working on Android software, the mobile phone will show a message stating “SIM network unlock PIN” or “Enter Network Lock Control Key” if it is network locked. Windows phones will show the message, “This SIM card can only be used on specific networks. Contact your customer service center for the unlock code”. Some other handsets may well display alternative messages for example , "Enter special code" or "Enter unlocking code," or in some cases the handset may simply present a message stating that it's locked. As soon as a valid code is typed in, the handset will display "Network unlocked” or “Network unlock successful”.

Economics:

Most of the time a SIM-locked device is marketed at a noticeably lower cost than an unlocked one simply because the service provider plans income via its service. SIM locks are employed on less expensive (pay-as-you-go) mobile phones, while discounts on higher priced handsets require a subscription that gives guaranteed income. Unlocked phones have a higher market value.

Unlocking Services:

Various organizations offer a network smartphone unlocking service . This service requires people whom want to unlock a phone to give their IMEI number to a service supplier and frequently they will also need the country and service provider the mobile is locked to, either sent via email or submitted on their website. The supplier will then provide (for a fee) an unlock code for the mobile phone handset.

Unlocking Service Providers:

Unfortunately there are a lot of fraudulent web sites active in the smart-phone imei unlocking industry. As a consequence it pays to ensure you locate a trustworthy provider for these services. To aid with the search for a trustworthy company, we have supplied a listing below (and in no specific order) of a number of genuine organizations currently offering such services.
